I love the blog <a href="https://faithandcomposition.wordpress.com/category/motherhood-2/"><i><b>Faith and Composition</b></i></a>. The author is so real and honest. She encourages me. I am so glad that I have found her blog! Today, I read her post about authenticity. Here is the first bit of that post: </div>
<div class="FreeForm" style="background-color: white; border: 0px; color: #444444; font-family: 'Open Sans', Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 24px; margin-bottom: 1.714285714rem; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
<b><span style="line-height: 24px;">"Authenticity can be a frightening prospect. The very act of baring honest struggles and removing a mask for other to witness can be terrifying. Because we’re programmed to paint over our imperfections, even as moms … </span><span style="border: 0px; line-height: 24px; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;"><i style="border: 0px; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">especially</i> as moms</span><span style="line-height: 24px;">.</span></b></div>

<b>It’s often easier to paint on a smile and feign perfect contentment. You and I could do that with our friends, our family, our church, our children, but perfection doesn’t foster intimacy; instead it builds walls. <em style="border: 0px; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">And I don’t know about you, but I’m more interested in tearing down walls.</em> I long for transparency, for rich relationships, for the deeply rooted friendships built on the experience of sharing real struggles and shouldering burdens."</b></div>

<br />
Wow. Did I need that today, or what? I am always so excited to pick up Avery and Kinsley from their preschool and to hear all about their time, but today's excitement ended quickly when Avery, my 4.5 year old, copped the worst attitude I've ever seen. Here's the story:<br />
<br />
When she came up to me at the pick up line in the atrium, she asked if we could stay and wait for her friend's class to come through because she wanted to play with her friend. I said yes. Her friend arrived and all three of my girls were so excited! They love running around and playing with this particular girlfriend of theirs. Avery came up to me and tried to hand me her lunch box and I told her she had to hold it (because CLEARLY, my hands and arms were already full from holding Lilly, Kinsley's bag and lunch and my car keys). Avery will be 4.5 years old on Saturday- she can carry her own things, especially when my hands are too full!!!! Well..... my telling her "no" when she tried to hand me her lunch box set her off something awful. She pitched a little fit and I told her that we now had to go and she had to tell her friend good-bye. Do you think she sweetly said "bye" to her friend and calmly walked out the door? Absolutely not. She threw her lunch box on the floor and proceeded to kick it all while crying and yelling at me that she wanted me to hold it and she did not want to leave because she wanted to play with her friends. She escalated from there.<br />
<br />
I tell you that part of the story because it happened in the church atrium during pick up time with a good 10-15 moms standing there witnessing her reaction... and mine. Talk about embarrassing. I know I shouldn't be thinking about myself in that situation. That I should be concerned about my child's behavior and the heart of the matter, which I was, but I was also totally embarrassed. There. That reason right there is why I so desperately needed to read this blog post today. I need to be authentic. I'm not perfect, my kids aren't perfect. We have some really, really great times, but we also have moments like that mentioned above. It's not fair to other moms for me to only allow them to see the sweet, kind, obedient moments. Someone today probably needed to see my, usually, well- behaved child act that way because it would encourage that parent that they are not alone. It was tough for me. Trying to swallow that HUGE pill of embarrassment. We walked to car huffing and puffing and escalated more there. There were tears shed from both Avery and myself. It was a rough moment. One that I would prefer to never have to live through again.<br />
<br />
Authenticity. It's so hard. It's real. I am thankful for women who open their hearts to me, someone they may have never met, on their blogs as an encouragement to me on my best days and my worst.<br />
<br />
So, I will try to be more real and authentic. Please help me by praying for me to get past my own fears of what others will think of me.Chris and Abbyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00277396213101127252noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3689574541102277921.post-17865528179635612272015-04-14T15:18:00.002-05:002015-04-14T15:18:31.008-05:00Parenting is hardNo one ever tells you that being a mom is tough. Most people, myself included, only let people see the sweet moments, whether it is through the happy pictures/videos posted on social media, or the public moments when you are trying so hard to sweetly redirect when your child disobeys in front of others. I am totally guilty of that. In fact, just the other day Avery and Kinsley were arguing in front of their friend and her mom. There was hitting and screaming involved and the other mom looked at me and said "I'm so glad to see that". "Your kids always seem so good and you always seem to have it all together". HA! Let me be the first to tell you that I DO NOT have it all together. I spend many days in tears and lots more in absolute frustration over, what I feel to be constant, disobedience and whininess (is that a word?) from my children. Yes, we have some really great days where we all get along great, but there are more days where we seem to battle each other all day long. I question where I went wrong. How do I change it? Chris tries so hard to remind me that they are just young children/toddlers and they are innate sinners, but it doesn't help me much. Do I expect too much out of them? Probably. I mean, they are only 1, 2 and 4, after all. <div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Being a mom is my dream. <i>I am living my dream. </i>For that, I am beyond grateful. Yes, it's the hardest thing I have ever done in my life. The days that we all get along and the girls are my sweet little angels.... those are the days that help me power through the difficult ones. God has given me this time in my life to be a mother. To teach our girls about His love for them. I fail daily. However, my God is a God of forgiveness and strength. He helps me through the difficult moments. He also rejoices with me in the good times. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
For those reading this and feel like you're all alone in this journey of motherhood. You are not! I am going through the same struggles you are.... and most importantly, GOD is walking alongside of you and ready to help you as soon as you are willing to hand the control over to Him. It's my biggest struggle- releasing my control. I don't always do it, but when I do, it's a beautiful thing. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Hang in there, mom. It's a difficult journey, but God has called YOU to go on this journey called Motherhood. Learn from it. Enjoy it. Encourage other moms. I need the encouragement and you do, too. We've got this! </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<i>Thank you, God, for allowing me to go through the ups and downs of motherhood. Help you to rely on you daily.</i> </div>

I mean, seriously, she is THE BEST CUDDLER and I love it! She tries her best to keep up with her big sisters and is taking a few steps by herself. Two weeks after her first birthday she took her first solo steps. At 13 months she will take about 5 steps by herself.... it won't be long before she is running circles around our kitchen with her sisters. Lilly still sleeps in mittens during naps and at night time because she still has this thing about pulling on her hair and eyelashes.... what is that all about!?! Her Dr. didn't seem concerned at all, yet he also had no suggestions for me on how to get her to stop this habit of hers.<br />

The incredibly talented Seana Tate took these adorable pictures of Lilly at 12.5 months old. Seana and I met when we lived in Niceville and thanks to social media, we have kept in touch. I love that we have kept in touch and that we can get together when we go back "home" to Florida. Check out her website.... <a href="http://seanatatephotography.com/">Seana Tate Photography</a></div>

I'm almost in shock that my baby girl is one today. So much has happened in her one year of life yet I feel like the year just flashed before my eyes. Over the last 24 hours I keep replaying the first moment I saw her. She was limp, blue and silent. The doctor and nurses were moving quickly and it was the scariest minute of our lives. That's all it was... a short 60 seconds, if that, but it felt like eternity to me. The neonatal nurses worked with her and she finally started to cry and "pink up". I thank God for her (and her sisters) every.single.day. Now, here we are, exactly one year later and she is a healthy, happy little girl. She brings so much joy and happiness into our home and my love for her overflows! I cannot imagine my life without her in it.<br />

<br />
Lilly Ann:<br />
- smiles all of the time<br />
- goes with the flow<br />
- LOVES her big sisters and is always giggling with them<br />
- still doesn't sleep through the night consistently, and when she does sleep through the night she wakes up between 5:15 and 6:15am.... I REALLY hope this changes soon. Mommy likes her sleep! :)<br />
- cruises on furniture and walks with her push toys, kitchen chairs or anything else that will move when she pushes it.<br />
- she is just beginning to stand without holding on to anything, but this doesn't last long before she plops down.<br />
- walks well when holding on to something or someone. She really only needs to hold on to one of my fingers for stability when walking. I don't think it will be too long before she is walking on her own<br />
- one week before she turned 1 she started to pull her out. We noticed she would do so when nursing or sometime during the night because we would find clumps of hair in her hand when she woke up. This has resulted in a bald spot. :(<br />
- nurses 2 times a day (morning and night) as of two weeks ago<br />
- tried whole milk a few times at 11.5 months, but I noticed it made her spit up a lot so I haven't given her any recently.<br />
- loves dogs... and I mean she REALLY LOVES dogs- especially our neighbor dogs, Penny and Finnegan<br />
- still only has two teeth (bottom centrals)<br />
- wears size 4 diapers<br />
- wears 12 month clothes<br />
<br />
We love you, Lil, and are so thankful God has allowed us to be your parents.<br />

<br />
It's Lilly's birth month... and tonight at dinner Chris mentioned our "1 year old". Um, I am not ready for her to be one! She is quite possibly our last little baby and I am wanting to hold on to the baby period for as long as possible. I don't want my last baby to grow up. I have such mixed emotions about her birthday being one month away. For one, I love this stage. She is busy exploring everything, she is cruising every where and she loves being a part of all that is going on. Such a fun time! However, like I said previously, she is my baby and I want her to stay that way!<br />
<br />
<br />
Lilly at 11 months old:<br />
- waves hi and bye<br />
- doesn't sign because I haven't taken the time to teach her how to do so<br />
- cruises along all the furniture and will push her walker, chairs, or anything else that will move when pushed, but won't attempt to walk without support yet.<br />
- celebrated her first Thanksgiving and Christmas.... which was so hard for me to believe because she's been with us for so long!<br />
- still nurses exclusively 3 times a day<br />
- eats table food and is an excellent eater. She much prefers food that she can feed herself rather than foods we have to spoon feed. She also gets really fussy if we don't feed her quick enough!<br />
- still loves bath time<br />
- has separation anxiety when we drop her off at the gym or church nursery.<br />
- she despises diaper changes and will cry the entire time we are changing her.... all while trying to roll over or scoot off of the changing table. Changing her clothes and diapers is like wrestling an alligator- or so I think!<br />
- wears size 9 and 12 month clothes<br />

I have always been the mom who takes her kids for their well checks the week they turn a certain age. However, with the move and needing to have medical records sent from Illinois to our new Dr. in Montgomery, we are now a month behind. Oh well. The Dr. wasn't concerned at all.<br />
<br />
<b>10 month stats:</b><br />
<b>Weight: 18 lbs 10 oz (40%)</b><br />
<b>Height: 28 in (65%)</b><br />
<b>Head Circ.: 17.5 (65%)</b><br />
<br />
She had to have her finger pricked and also got the flu vaccine and the last of her Hep B. She cried, but not for long. It didn't help that we were there during her nap time. :(<br />
<br />
I am so thankful for a healthy little baby girl!Chris and Abbyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00277396213101127252noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3689574541102277921.post-7452494651545514482014-12-01T20:08:00.001-06:002014-12-01T20:08:28.455-06:00Lilly is 10 months!<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

This was the most fun monthly "photo shoot" I have had with Lilly because she was all giggles and squeals! She is so much fun to be around and she continually keeps us on our toes. The girl is on the move and into everything! <br />

For some reason, the 7 month mark really got to me. I literally cannot believe that it has been seven months. I'm having a hard time putting my feelings into words.... Lilly brings us all so much joy. Her sisters love her and Chris and I can't get enough of her.<br />

<div>
- her hair is also getting lighter - she may be a blonde like her sisters! (one day)</div>
<div>

- pays more attention to Bailey these days, too.</div>
<div>
- Lilly is very content and laid back</div>
<div>

"Where has the time gone!?" It's so hard to believe that Lilly is 6 months already! I can't believe that 6 months ago the ground was covered in snow and we were blessed to live in a place that can accommodate such snowy conditions so well. Had we lived in the South on January 29, 2014, we would not have been able to make it to the hospital to have Lilly. We would have ended up in a much smaller and less baby birthing friendly hospital due to the ICE that Florida was experiencing. God sure had our move to Chicago all planned out and we were able to go to the hospital without any stress that morning of January 29th to have our sweet baby Lilly.<br />

Lilly at 6 months:</div>
<div>
- sitting with very little support, but not all on her own yet. </div>
<div>
- found her feet and has started to play and "eat" them</div>
<div>
- rolls front to back and back to front. </div>
<div>
- enjoys being outside</div>
<div>
- loves when her sisters talk to her </div>
<div>
- has the sweetest smile</div>
<div>
- her hair is long enough that it no longer stands straight up.... it makes her look like a completely different child! I put it in a ponytail more often than not, now. </div>

<div>
- Lilly is such a happy baby and rarely cries. If she does cry it's because she is hungry or tired</div>
<div>
- Over the last month she has really had a hard time when we put her in her crib for naps or night time... she will cry for a while before she finally falls asleep.</div>
<div>
- takes one morning nap that lasts anywhere from 1-2 hours and an afternoon nap for 1-2 hours. She should really take a catnap in the early evening hours, but any time I try to give her a nap she screams... so she just has a really long wake time before bed. </div>
<div>
- sleeps 11-12 hours every night</div>
<div>
- is curious about everything.... </div>

<div>
- sleeps on her tummy most of the time</div>
<div>
- still likes her paci</div>
<div>
- likes bath time</div>
<div>
- wears size 3 diapers and 6 month clothes</div>
<div>
- exclusively breast fed 4-5 times a day... which means we are on a 3-4 hour schedule. </div>
- She would rather stand than practice sitting.... Every time I try to work on sitting with her she arches her back to stand. She still needs support standing, though.<br />

How is it even possible that our sweet little Kinsley Rae is two years old already? She is truly a delight to be around. Her personality is oh so cute and she makes us smile and laugh daily. Kinsley often times dances to the beat of her own drum.... okay, ALL the time! She will follow Avery around and do every little thing Avery does, but she also has a mind of her own and when she gets something on her mind, by golly she will follow through with whatever that might be. Kinsley is clumsy and will for sure be the child that puts us in the ER for the first time. Every day she falls and busts something.... I seriously can't believe she still has all of her teeth still. Not only is she clumsy, but she is daring. So far, she has been my earliest climber and she isn't afraid of anything.... except characters in costumes. (Chuckie Cheese, Santa Clause, and I'm sure Mickey Mouse would even frighten her if we made it down to Disney). She's my little dare devil and keeps me on my toes.<br />
<br />
Kinsley is also the most kind, caring, loving and compassionate two year old I have ever known. If you cry, she will be right by your side rubbing your arm or giving you a hug. She LOVES to cuddle and loves to be held..... since she was out of the womb this has been her personality! I love watching her gentle spirit. You should see her with babies! She is hands on - all the time- and loves to hold them, kiss them and hug them. She doesn't understand that people have this thing called a "bubble" and she will bust up into your bubble - or any child's bubble- at any time. Some kids don't mind it, but it freaks most children her age.<br />

Her hair is blonde! Like, really blonde. More so than Avery's hair. It's hard to believe she was born with such a head full of dark hair. It's also wavy.... on top it can be pretty curly, but in the back is straight. She has party hair, for sure. Her "bangs" are finally growing longer and are just past her eyes- which means she can't see most of the time or I have to put her hair up, which is always a fight!<br />
<br />
She is wearing 24 month clothing and size 4 diapers. She is obsessed with her paci's. I have tried to break her of the habit and we were really good about her only having them in her bed. Then we traveled for two weeks and she got hooked again and I will find her sneaking the paci's out of her bed. She is beginning to use more words and will pair two, sometimes three, words together at a time. She is usually extremely clinging and fussy when she wakes up in the mornings and from naps.<br />
<br />
She is a mess.... all of the time. Meal time is messy, craft time is messy, life is messy.... but that's who she is and I love it. My OCDness about cleanliness gets the best of me and my attitude toward her messiness, but I am really trying to LET IT GO!<br />

Kinsley was a flower girl in her Aunt Amanda's wedding just a few weeks before she turned two. I had to carry her down the aisle, but she still did great and didn't cry like I expected her to do.<br />

Kinsley Rae, we love you more than words can express. You brighten our days and you show us how to love each day. Thank you for your loving, silly and sometimes defiant ways. <br />
This year we got to celebrate July 4th Chicago style. Which really means, we weren't at the beach in Destin this year, but we still had a wonderful time! Chris' parents, Ed and Cheryl, flew up on the evening of July 2 and spend 5 nights with us. Thursday was just a day to hang out and let the girls enjoy time with their grandparents while Chris was at work.<br />
<br />
Thankfully, Chris was off this year on July 4th (his boss so graciously covered the hospital so that Chris didn't have to!) and we got to enjoy the day as a family. That morning our neighborhood had a parade. We loaded the girls into their red wagon and walked to the main street in our subdivision to enjoy the parade.<br />

After the parade we decided to head into downtown Naperville for "Ribfest" and had a blast. We listened to live bands, ate yummy pulled pork and ribs, and Avery and Kinsley even got to enjoy some carnival rides for the first time. They got a little panicked on some of the rides- even Kinsley, which surprised me since she is always so fearless! It was HOT HOT HOT and my back may have gotten FRIED, but we still had fun. The highlight for Avery was getting to ride the yellow school bus to and from our car to the event.<br />

<br />
We made it home for a late nap for the girls then grilled out for dinner. Chris planned and cooked our entire menu and it was delicious. Steak, baked potatoes, a summer salad with corn, avocado, tomatoes, red onion and a cilantro dressing, and cauliflower sticks. Avery called his bluff on the cauliflower sticks almost immediately.... "Daddy, this is not bread" but we eventually got her to eat one. :) That night we went to an open field and watched the fireworks. It was a long, exhausting, and yet really fun day. I love nothing more than spending the day with my husband and our girls and getting to see the excitement on their faces when they experience something new for the first time.<br />
<br />
On Saturday the 5th, Ed and Cheryl babysat while Chris and I went to a friends house for a shrimp boil. We then went to Downers Grove to an Irish pub called Balydoyles for a late dinner. It was so fun getting to spend adult time with our friends for a day. Too bad I didn't take any pictures to document that we actually did this! ha!<br />
<br />
Sunday was another great day that started with church and then lunch in downtown Naperville. During the girls' nap, Chris and I went for a long walk through the McDowell forest preserves just up the street from our house. I enjoyed just being able to walk and talk with him without any distractions. Sunday night included Giordianos stuffed pizza (of course!) and later, a rented movie with Chris' parents.<br />
<br />
We had such a wonderful holiday weekend and are so thankful that we have family that can so easily come up for a visit. Our time with Ed and Cheryl is always so nice and always too short... as it is with all our family and friends.<br />
<br />
I hope your holiday weekend was wonderful, too!Chris and Abbyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00277396213101127252noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3689574541102277921.post-21193586264407952352014-08-12T13:09:00.001-05:002014-08-12T13:09:15.840-05:00Kinsley's HealthKinsley's two year check up went well and the doctor said she is healthy, but we do have a few concerns. The first is that her iron levels came back low. I think they are supposed to be above 11 and Kinsley's levels were at 9.2. She has to take a liquid iron supplement that she absolutely abhors and is supposed to be eating foods rich in iron. HA! My once non-picky eater is now a challenge to feed so finding healthy, iron enriched foods that she will actually eat is a joke! She does take a gummy vitamin every day and some days I succeed in getting her to take her iron supplement. We are to go back to the dr. in two months to check her iron levels.<br />
<br />
When she was 13 months old she had tubes put in her ears. They worked fabulously because she has not had an ear infection since! At her 2 year appointment, we found out that one of her tubes has fallen out. This is not a good or bad thing. We knew it would happen at some point. The tube in her left ear is still in tact, and even though the tube in her right ear has come out, it still looks great! No fluid! YAY!<br />
<br />
Back up even further to her 9 month check-up. Her pediatrician heard a heart murmur and though she wasn't concerned, she still referred us to a cardiologist. We went to the cardiologist in Pensacola and were relieved to hear that the murmur was benign and that she should outgrow it. Well, last week at her 2 year appointment, the pediatrician said that the murmur is still there and seems louder in the bottom of the heart.... so, we have been referred back to cardiology. Please pray that this will heal on it's own and that the cardiologist doesn't find anything to be concerned about.<br />
<br />
Overall, Kinsley is a healthy girl and we are so, very thankful!<br />

She is such an easy, laid back baby-- I guess she has to be with two older sisters running around! No Dr. visit this month, but I know she is growing steadily. I can't wait to hear her stats next month!<br />
<br />
Lilly at 5 months:<br />
<br />
- Laughs when her sisters make her swing go really high or when we tickle her<br />
- Smiles the second she sees you bending over her crib each morning or after nap. THIS is my favorite part of every day.<br />
- Rolled from her back to her tummy for the first time on June 21st (big sis, Kinsley's 2nd birthday)<br />
- Enjoys her activity seat<br />
- reaches for everything<br />
- watches our every move when we eat or drink<br />
- was a flower girl in Aunt Amanda's wedding when she was just over 4 months<br />
- traveled to Georgia, Alabama and Florida<br />
- sleeps from 7/7:30pm - 6:30-7am.... occasionally she will wake to eat at 5am, but it is rare.<br />
- Is on a 3-4 hour schedule. Sometimes she could go 4 hours, but I will have to feed her sooner for our family's schedule, and other times she is ready to eat at the 3 hour mark.<br />
- exclusively breast fed<br />
- will take a bottle of breast milk easily, but we rarely offer one.<br />
- uses a paci, thumb or her fingers to soothe herself<br />
- naps 1-2 hours in the morning and again in the afternoon with an occasional cat-nap in the early evening<br />
- refuses to fall asleep in her swing<br />
- paying more attention to Bailey<br />
- has been to the church nursery a few times and does really well<br />
- her hair still sticks up most of the time, but is gradually falling.<br />
- "talks" all of the time<br />
- loves to be held facing outward- she may be a social little girl!<br />
- gets tired of being held and wants to be on the floor playing<br />
- she gets super excited when her sisters give her attention<br />
- only cries if she is hungry or tired<br />
- just moved into 6 month clothing at 5 months<br />
- wears size 3 diapers<br />
<br />
Lilly Ann- you are fun, happy and content. We are so blessed to be your parents! We love you!!<br />

This is such a fun age.... Lilly is so much more social these days and her smile brightens a room. Her 4 month well check up went really well. The doctor didn't have to ask me many developmental questions about Lilly because she was demonstrating them for the Dr. through out the visit..... she is quite the social butterfly. She had a very delayed reaction to the shots she received and when she finally did cry it lasted a total of 10 seconds. Of course, her big sisters were singing "Jesus Loves Me" to her and I'm sure that helped soothe her!! :)<br />

- Lilly is not consistently sleeping through the night yet. She will go 11-12 hours some nights and other nights she will wake up at 12:30, 2:30, or 4.... I never know what the night will be like when I go to bed.<br />
- Still exclusively breastfed and eats 6 times a day.<br />

Am I being the mom that God has called me to be? Am I showing them His love? Am I disciplining them in a loving and gentle manner? Sadly, my answer is no. This leaves me broken-hearted and angry with myself. On the other hand, I have found myself desperately clinging to the word of God more than I ever have before.<br />
<br />
I was driving to the airport to pick up my sister about a month ago when I heard a song on the radio that has become my prayer for me and my kids. It's called "Let Them See You" by JJ Weeks Band. The chorus is as follows:<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
"Let them see You in me</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Let them hear You when I speak</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Let them feel You when I sing</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Let them see You</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Let them see You in me"</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
I love my girls more than words can express and I want to demonstrate God's love and compassion daily. I don't want them to remember me losing my cool or not reacting with the kindness Jesus requires of me. I pray they see The Lord in me daily. </div>

Lilly is such an easy baby. We don't have a great schedule going, but I can figure out her "routine" for the most part. She sleeps through the night on occasion, but I still don't know what the night will be like when I finally crawl into bed. It's hard to believe we have had two months with her!<br />

<b>Weight: 11lbs 6 oz (49%)</b><br />
<b>Height: 22.25 in (36%)</b><br />
<b>Head circ.: 15in (42%)</b><br />
<br />
Lilly at two months:<br />
- has discovered her hands<br />
- is beginning to "coo"<br />
- has socially smiled once or twice.<br />
- still breastfeeds exclusively... about 7 times a day<br />
- seems to really like tummy time (the only one who hasn't hated it!)<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

- still fusses when I lay her down for naps in her crib<br />
- has several "wake times" throughout the day<br />
- is still holding on to her hair - for now!<br />
- I can't keep her on her tummy for long before she rolls herself over.<br />
- sleeps 4-5 stretches at night and other nights she will go as long as 7-8 hours!<br />
- busts out of her swaddle daily so we now leave her arms out when we swaddle... she is sooo young for that already!!<br />

We have been a family of 5 for a month already and are adjusting really well. Avery and Kinsley are such great big sisters and they love on Lilly any chance they get. Right now, she sleeps ALL of the time... so the adjustment hasn't been as terrifying as I was anticipating. Yes, I am sleep deprived, but I have been for over three years! I was most nervous about having to feed Lilly while occupying the older girls. Well, really just Kinsley. Avery is at the age where she can entertain herself really well and has a bit of independence to her. Kinsley, on the other hand, is quite needy and wants to be right on top of you all of the time. SO- how was I going to feed a newborn and entertain Kinsley and keep her fearless self safe!?! To my surprise, we have all managed this fairly well. Lilly is a super effecient eater and is done after 5 minutes. Kinsley and Avery have been playing well together, and even independently of each other. And.... let's face it: I turn on Mickey Mouse a lot. This is real life, people.... and sometimes the TV is an added help!<br />

<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
- Lilly has had her first cold. (already) Poor thing was only 3 weeks old when she caught a cold after both her sisters were sick. It was miserable and we felt so bad for her. She was extremely congested and had a terrible cough.... for. a. week. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
- She rolled from her tummy to her back on February 25th... twice!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
- She has good head/neck control and can lift her head pretty high while on tummy time, but she can also slam her head forward into your collar bone on occassion. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
- she is no longer in newborn diapers.<br />
<br />
- she is squeezing into NB clothes, but fits 0-3month shirts easily. The 0-3 month pants are still huge on her.<br />
<br />
- She is a sleepy baby and it's difficult to keep her awake even for a full feeding.<br />
<br />
- Sleeps well at night- usually gets up once or twice during the night to eat.<br />
<br />
What a wonderful addition you are to our family, Lilly!!! </div>

She weighed in at 8lbs 2oz (which is quite amazing considering the worry our doctors had about her weight gain throughout the last half of my pregnancy) and was 20.5 inches long. She is such a wonderful addition to our family and we couldn't be happier that our family has grown by another sweet little girl!<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
So, this pregnancy was unlike the other two we have experienced. We moved to the Chicago area half way through my pregnancy and I quickly found a Doctor. During my second visit (October 31, 2013) with my new OB, I had an ultrasound. This u/s was in part, due to the fact that at my 20 week scan in FL there was a cyst seen on Lilly's brain. This was of LITTLE concern for two reasons: 1.) Avery had the same thing and by the next u/s with her, it was completely gone. and 2.) this is a fairly common (so I'm told) thing and usually resolves on its own. My Dr. in FL was not concerned because this cyst was not accompanied by certain criteria that makes it something to worry about. SO- since we had already been through this with Avery's pregnancy, I wasn't super concerned. The new Dr. in Illinois wanted to do another u/s to check the status of this cyst and PRAISE THE LORD... it was gone! (Just like my FL doctor said it would be!) I guess since it was my first ultrasound at this practice, they decided to do a full anatomy scan just so they would have all the information they needed. This quickly turned into a day I will never forget. The Doctor came into the room after reviewing the information from the ultrasound and told me that she was worried that Lilly wasn't growing the way she should be. She was above the 10th%, but certain parts of her body were small. Her femurs were measuring in the 2nd% and her head was also measuring small. The doctor referred me to a high risk doctor and I had to then wait 5 days for that appointment and it was TORTURE!!! We finally made it to the high risk doctor and after an hour long ultrasound, we were told there was nothing to worry about. She was measuring small, but her bone structure looked great. The doctor explained to us that her measurements would be a cause of concern for dwarfism or down syndrome earlier in the pregnancy, but by the time I saw the high risk doctor I was in my 3rd trimester and babies begin to develop at different rates and she was just measuring smaller.... which was no surprise to the Dr. after seeing that Chris and I are both rather small individuals. He said that he would be concerned if we were 6 feet tall, but clearly, we're not! He was guessing she would be a 7 pound baby- but probably no more than 7lb4oz! It was a relief, to say the least, to hear that the high risk doctor did not want to see me again. He did recommend that I have another standard ultrasound around 36 weeks and I did. The doctor was concerned, again, about her size because she was measuring at least 2 weeks smaller than she should be. SO.... from that point on, every Monday, I would have an ultrasound and would be hooked up to the monitor to check on her each week. Every week she was perfect and the doctors kept guessing that she was just going to be a small baby. They estimated that she would be around 6lbs 10oz. (ha!!)<br />
<br />
Fast forward to delivery day!!!!<br />

8:40: Pitocin started and antibiotic given through IV<br />
9:00: Palms and Head started to itch = allergic reaction to the Vancomycin (antibiotic)<br />
~ This reaction lead to the Dr's decision to stop my antibiotic. I received only 50 out of the 200+ ml that I was supposed to get. As a result, their was now a concern for Lilly's health and there would be a possibility she would need to go directly to the NICU. My OB spoke with the neonatologist who said that sending Lilly to the NICU was not necessary, but she would be under close observation for 48 hours after delivery and would need extra blood work done during our hospital stay.<br />
10:30: The Dr. broke my water<br />
11:30: Epidural<br />
12:05 pm: 9 cm<br />
12:58: 10 cm<br />
1:10: Started Pushing<br />
1:16: Lilly arrived!!!! This was the scariest minute of our lives. The cord was wrapped around Lilly's neck one time and she came out blue/purple and completely unresponsive. Things quickly changed to a more stressful situation and the Dr. was now rushing to get Lilly out and to the table. She cut the cord and passed Lilly off to the neonatal nurses. They had her crying and pinked up within a minute of delivery, but it was still the scariest minute of our lives. Chris was able to cut more of her umbilical cord at the table and she was weighed and cleaned up before I was finally able to hold her.<br />
<br />
Did I mention that we were a little nervous about having a Chicago baby in the middle of winter for fear of a blizzard... yet it was a beautiful day and that same day GA and FL were shut down due to snow and ice. Who would have ever guessed it was going to be better to have her here rather than in FL where we wouldn't have been able to cross the bridge to get to the hospital because it was closed due to ice!?!?<br />
<br />
God certainly had His hand in this pregnancy. <br />

We are so thankful to God for protecting her and keeping her safe throughout the pregnancy and delivery. He taught us a lot during these 9 months leading up to her birth and we have really learned to rely on Him more.<br />

<br />
I am starting a new tradition: when the girls turn three years old I will start interviewing them on each birthday. I will ask the same questions each year to see how their answers change as they grow up. This idea came from my friend, <a href="http://babyakin.blogspot.com/"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: blue;">Sarah Akin</span></a>, and I'm super excited about it! Here is Avery's interview from her 3rd birthday-- 2.5 months ago!<br />
